Setup guide

Native ads (Taboola/Outbrain) to lead gen

Track native traffic by publisher site, send conversions back to the source.

You need

  • A ClickMesh account
  • A lead gen offer with postback, or your own lead form
  • A Taboola or Outbrain account
  1. Step 1: Add the lead gen offer

    For a network CPL offer, create an offer and put {click_id} in the sub-ID parameter the network returns.

    If leads go to your own form, ClickMesh adds a cmclid parameter to your landing page URL. Store it with the lead and call the postback URL from your server when the lead is accepted, with cid set to that value.

    https://leadgen-network.example/go?offer=55&aff=456&s1={click_id}
  2. Step 2: Create a campaign with the Taboola or Outbrain template

    Native traffic is bought across thousands of publisher sites, so the templates put the site or section in sub1. That makes it easy to spot and block sites that lose money, because reports group by sub1.

    The source’s own click ID goes in ext, so ClickMesh can report conversions back to the source.

    Outbrain tracking link
    https://hopwire.xyz/c/ab12cd?sub1={{section_id}}&sub2={{campaign_id}}&sub3={{ad_id}}&ext={{ob_click_id}}
  3. Step 3: Set the lead postback

    At the network, add the ClickMesh postback URL with its macros. For your own form, call the same URL from your server and fill the values in yourself.

    Postback URL (generic macros)
    https://hopwire.xyz/postback?cid={s1}&payout={payout}&txid={lead_id}
  4. Step 4: Turn on the outbound postback to the source

    In the campaign’s traffic source settings, enable the outbound postback. ClickMesh then calls the source’s server-to-server conversion URL with the stored ext click ID each time a lead is recorded, so the source can optimise for leads.

    Make sure the conversion or event name in the URL matches the one you created in your Taboola or Outbrain account.

  5. Step 5: Send a test click and a test conversion

    Open the campaign in ClickMesh and use Test click to send a click through your tracking link. Check that it lands on the right page.

    Then press Send test conversion and watch the live postback log: it shows each postback as it arrives and whether it matched a click. When real conversions come in from your network, they show up in the same log, so you can see exactly what the network sent.

  6. Step 6: Import native spend and cut losing sites

    Export spend by day from Taboola or Outbrain and upload it with the generic CSV format, or enter it by hand. Then sort the sub1 report by profit and add losing sites to the block list in your native ads account.
